Its been my primary ocarina for the past few weeks. I’ve been playing the soprano as well but I’m partial to the tenor range. Maybe my next video I’ll play something higher.
Anyway, I learned Westphalia because I liked the sound of it, but little did I know the rich history surrounding how it came to popularity – there’s even a DVD! If you’re interested in that sort of thing – you can learn all about it here .
Ico was one of my all time favorite games. While the gameplay was innovative and fun, what really made the game great (in my opinion) was the beautiful soundtrack, which added so much to the overall experience. The creators of this game went on to make Shadow of the Colossus, and it was recently announced that they are working on a new project called Trico for the PS3! I’d thought I’d celebrate this news with a piece from Ico which I was saving for a rainy day.
I thought I’d try something more contemporary for a change. Some of Radiohead’s music works really well for instrumental arrangements, and I was hoping to really bring out the lovely, clear tone of these particular ocarinas.
Thanks to everyone who has requested songs – I’ll try to record some of these very soon.
The ocarinas used in this video are the Tenor C and Tenor F Blue and White Porcelain ocarinas, both from STL.
I’m a big fan of Miyazaki’s animated films, and Howl’s Moving Castle is one of my favorites. The theme is a lot of fun to play – I really enjoyed learning this song!
