I thought I’d play something on my bass C ocarina for a change. I really enjoyed Turbo852′s recent rendition of Sakura. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a pretty cherry tree to stand in front of, but my shirt kind of looks like cherry blossoms…
The ocarinas I’m using are the Blue and White Porcelain Bass and Tenor ocarinas, both in the key of C.
The microphone used is the AKG Perception 220, and as usual the sound is unedited, using the natural reverb of the room.
Scotland the Brave and The Blue Bells of Scotland, both Scottish folk songs, fit nicely within the one octave range of this ocarina. As far as ocarinas go, I think the teacarina is very creative and cool. It’s definitely unique in my collection.
Check out the end of the video for a better look at the pretty glazing, as well as the placement of the fipple and finger holes and the inside. I got it from STL Ocarina.
This ocarina was a birthday gift from my husband and Kuolong Pan. I have to say it was one of the biggest birthday surprises ever!!! When I woke up my husband asked me what I thought of this video :
Being a big fan of Mr. Pan, it’s one of my favorites. After watching the video he gave me a box, and the box contained the ocarina in the video I had just watched. I almost fainted. I was expecting a CD or something.
It’s definitely my most cherished ocarina and it will probably never leave my house. It is a treasured gift and I am deeply humbled.
This is one of many pieces written by Jean-Baptiste Loeillet specifically for the recorder. I think this one is especially nice on the ocarina so now I’m on the lookout for more recorder music to play.
